About Troop 483

Troop 483 Mission Statement

"Troop 483 Scouts will learn skills necessary to become productive, active, ethical and responsible adults."

As parents and scout leaders, our conduct around the scouts will be held at the highest moral and ethical level. Troop 483 utilizes eight Methods of Scouting to accomplish the scouting goals of character, citizenship and fitness.

Troop Scouting Program

The Troop's mission statement is implemented through the troop's scouting program. To that end Troop 483 incorporates activities into it's scouting program that are directed at three basic objectives; 1) Character Development; 2) Citizenship Development ; and 3) Mental and Physical Fitness.

Membership

Membership in Boy Scouting is open to all boys who have completed the fifth grade, achieved the Arrow of Light award in Cub Scouts or are at least 11 years old, but no older than 18 years old. Scouts who are 18 years or older can become adult leaders in the Troop; with committee approval.

All adult leaders in the Troop must be registered and must have completed Youth Protection Training

Meetings

Troop meetings are held on Monday nights at the Stilwell Baptist Church from 7:00 - 8:30 PM. Patrol Leaders Meetings are usually held on the last Monday night of the month. Scouts should be dressed in Class A uniforms and bring their Boy Scout Handbook to each meeting. For summertime meetings a Class B uniform is acceptable. Meetings are for planning or evaluating campouts, discussing issues, working on rank advancement or a merit badge workshop. Attendance at meetings is not mandatory but highly encouraged. Certain rank advancements will require a high percentage of attendance at meetings, camp-outs and other scout events in order for the scouts to demonstrate leadership skills.

Expenses and Fees

Yearly membership dues are $50.00. This covers BSA registration, rank advancement badges, merit badges maintaining and purchasing equipment and administrative costs.

Monthly camp-outs are based on $4.00 per meal plus the cost of the planned activity. Payment for the monthly camp-out should be paid two weeks in advance. No registration will be accepted the day of the trip.
